Stephanie Dawn ‘Stephy’ Culbert-Clougherty, 41, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital. She was the wife of Brandon Clougherty, this month would have marked their 8th wedding anniversary.
She was born in Lowell on March 12, 1982 and was a daughter of Joseph Culbert and Constance White (Culbert) Stys. She she was educated in the Lowell schools and graduated from Greater Lowell Vocational High School with the class of 2000. She further pursued her education at Middlesex Community College.
Stephanie was diagnosed with type 1 juvenile diabetes at the age of 9 and was well known locally for her advocacy work helping to fight the disease. Her unwavering dedication to this cause led her to raise more than $50,000 over the years. Her efforts were acknowledged and celebrated when she was honored at the House of Representatives for her diligent and compassionate commitment to shedding light on and supporting others battling the disease.
In addition to her advocacy work, Stephy was an affectionate wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her capacity to offer abundant love to her family and friends was boundless. Despite the challenges posed by her illness, she was resilient and unwavering. Moments spent with her loved ones held a special place in her heart, and she particularly cherished times at Salisbury Beach. A lifelong Patriots fan, she had the privilege of touching the Lombardi Trophy, an experience she would never forget.
She also loved children and prior to her condition worsening, she helped out at a local daycare, leaving an impact on the young lives she touched. She also found joy helping out at her family’s flower shop, A Belvidere Florist in Lowell.
Simply put, Stephy was a fighter, battling illness nearly her entire life. Her legacy is one of courage, strength and bravery, especially in the face of despair. She will never be forgotten.
In addition to her loving husband, Brandon, and her parents, Joe Culbert of Lowell and Konni White Stys and her domestic partner, Howard Chain, she is survived by her sisters, Davina Brown and her husband, Anthony of Northwood, NH, Andrea Culbert of Lowell, and Brittany Moreau and her husband, Sean of Manchester, NH; her nephews, Brandon A. Dame of Manchester, and Logan P. Brown and Cole J. Brown of Northwood, NH; her fur babies, Keela, Roman, and Willow; her mother in law, Linda Clougherty; her siblings in law, Shane and Susan Clougherty, Shawn and Danielle Clougherty; her niece, Makayla Clougherty, her many cousins including Tricia Spychalski who was very close with her; and many aunts and uncles including Jay Blaikie and Laurel Blaikie, Dawn and Christian Caster, Patrick and Darleen Culbert, John and Linda Culbert, Timothy Culbert, Sr., and James Culbert. Her Godfather, Stavros Panagiotopoulos; her cousins, and her godchildren, including, Junielys DeJesus and Jax Clougherty; and her many friends locally and her many friends in England and Ireland.
She was predeceased by her brother Stephen Joseph Culbert, her grandparents, Thaddeus White and Lois White and Francis and Florette Culbert; and her Godmother, Alexandra Panagiotopoulos.

On Tuesday, September 5, 2023 all are welcome to her calling hours from 4 until 8 p.m. at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, 978-452-6361. Her funeral will begin on Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by her funeral mass at 9 a.m. St. Rita’s Parish, 158 Mammoth Road, Lowell. Burial in St. Patrick cemetery.
