“Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather, Designer Draftsman”

HAVERHILL – Joseph Salvatore Zagarella, 85, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2020, at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill after a battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Catherine A. (Doyle) Zagarella with whom he shared over 62 years of marriage.

A son of the late Joseph Salvatore Zagarella II and the late Josephine (Pappalardo) Zagarella, he was born July 27, 1935 in Boston. He was raised and educated in the Lawrence/Lowell area, graduating from Lawrence High School where he was a member of the school band, drama club and was a football standout.

Joe worked as a designer draftsman for many years at various large companies before his retirement. He was a parishioner at the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell, and he enjoyed playing golf, music and going to the beach. Through it all, he always put his family first and his time spent with them meant the world to him. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.

Besides his wife, Catherine, he is survived by his children, Joseph Salvatore Zagarella IV of Chelmsford, John W. Zagarella  of North Andover, Mary J. Lambert and her husband, John, of Tyngsboro, Thomas J. Zagarella  of Lowell and Susan A. Mercado and her husband, Jose, of Dracut. Additionally, he leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Katelyn Maria Mercado, Joseph Salvatore Mercado, Joseph Salvatore Zagarella and  Olivia Catherine Lambert, his dear sister, Teresa Zagarella of North Andover and an abundance of extended family and many good friends.  Joe was predeceased by his sister, the late Grace Zagarella

ARRANGEMENTS BY THE MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 NESMITH STREET, LOWELL 978-452-6361. DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS, HIS FUNERAL MASS AT IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH AND BURIAL IN ST. MARY CEMETERY WILL TAKE  PLACE PRIVATELY.

    My thoughts and prayers are with Aunt Kay and all the family. Uncle Joe was an amazing man and his smile was contagious. I will miss him beeping at me and waving as he drove by. I hope he is dancing in heaven with his huge smile. Rest in Paradise Uncle Joe, you will live in our hearts forever.
