William B. “Billy” Lucier, 77 years old, a lifelong Belvidere resident, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 16th after complications from a medical procedure at Lowell General Hospital. Billy was the last surviving Lucier brother, a well known Lowell family.
Billy was born in Lowell, MA on October 25, 1947, a son of the late Robert J. and Ruth A. (Mulligan) Lucier. He was educated in Lowell schools.
Billy drove a cab with Yellow Cab in Lowell for a number of years before he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1974. He unfortunately returned home shortly after his enlistment when his mother took ill.
He primarily worked as a caretaker for his late brother, Bruce Lucier, for over thirty five years before Bruce’s passing in 2018. This was truly Billy’s life’s work and he took great pride in taking care of Bruce, who was his best friend.
Billy had a lifelong passion for all sports and especially enjoyed watching and playing basketball and golf. In his younger years, he volunteered as a CYO basketball coach. He also loved going to the dog track with his brothers and friends for a night of betting and fun. Billy loved his family and will be remembered for his sense of humor and never having a filter when he spoke.
He is survived by his three sisters, Lynda Sawyer and Louann Gagnon, both of Lowell, MA and Laureen Lucier and Tom Economou, of Tewksbury, MA. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, Michelle, Robert, and John Lucier, his best friend Michael Sawyer, Lynne and Steve O’Brien, Cara and Bill Pelland, Stephen Gagnon, and Alexa Economou. He was great-uncle to Rylee and Meagan O’Brien.
Billy was predeceased by his brothers, Robert in 2023, John in 2016, and Bruce in 2018, and his brothers-in-law, George Sawyer in 1983 and Stephen M. Gagnon in 1984.
All are welcome to attend his Funeral Mass which will be offered on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 144 East Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA.
