Shirley L. (Bevins) Dufresne

LOWELL Shirley L. (Bevins) Dufresne, 88, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Sunday, February 18 at Lowell General Hospital.

She was born in Lowell on May 7, 1935, and was a daughter of the late Warren J. Bevins and the late Cecilia (Goyette) Bevins. She was educated at St. Michael’s parochial school and graduated from Lowell High School. She went on to graduate from Lowell Academy Hairstyling Institute.

Shirley worked as a hairdresser in Lowell for over 40 years. She owned and operated Shirley’s Beauty Salon and also taught at the Lowell Academy, later Blaine.

In her younger days she loved to dance, especially at the SAC Club in Lowell. She also enjoyed bingo. She also loved to knit and crochet, but above all, enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during cookouts.

She is survived by a son, Kevin Dufresne of Lowell, a grandson, Christopher Dufrersne of Dracut and 2 granddaughters, Alexa and Gianna Dufresne both of Dracut. She is also survived by her siblings, Robert Bevins of Lowell, Alfred Bevins and his wife, Aline, of Dracut; her daughter in law, Anna Dufresne of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late Donald Bevins, the late Warren Bevins, the late Rita Gustafson, the late Theresa Vezina the late Pauline Bisson, the late Dorothy Carbeneau and the late Eva Crawford.

At Shirley’s request, calling hours have been omitted and a private burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery.     Shirley was a beautiful woman who helped a young hairdresser many years ago. She was a cousin of my Aunt, Lorraine Aubut Whitten. May she Rest in the Light of Heaven.
