Roum Chhoeun

Lowell – Roum Chhoeun, 86, unexpectedly passed away on March 11, 2023, at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Proeung Ngeth for over 60 years.

Born on April 7, 1936, in Battambang Province, Cambodia, Roum grew up and was educated in his home country. He worked as a jeweler in Cambodia and later briefly relocated to Thailand, then to the Philippines, before immigrating to the United States with his pregnant wife and two children.

Roum cherished his family and always prioritized their needs. He loved spending time with his children, taking walks with his wife, listening to music, taking care of his car, and indulging his sweet tooth. He was a social man who had many friends, and he was a member of the Eliot Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, Proeung Ngeth of Lowell, Roum is survived by his children: Phally Chhoeun and his wife Srey Oun of Portland, Maine, Charlotte Lariviere and her husband Andrew of Townsend, and Debie Chhoeun and her companion Jeremy Chaves of Brighton, CO. He is also survived by his three grandchildren Letta Oeur, Chadda Chhoeun, and Sophie Lariviere, his brother in Lowell, a half-sister of Lowell; many friends, including his translator and close friend, Mary Yauk of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Eliot Presbyterian Church, 273 Summer St, Lowell, MA. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the church, followed by a procession to Merrimack Cremation Service. A reception for food and gathering will follow back at the Eliot Presbyterian Church at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements are by the Mahoney Funeral Home, Lowell, MA.
