Pauline Mary (Carrigg) McGowan, 96, of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2026, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved widow of the late Earl F. McGowan, who passed away in 1965 at the age of 36.
She was born in Lowell on January 25, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Patrick and Julia (Sheehan) Carrigg. She was raised in Lowell and attended the local schools. Following her graduation from Lowell High School in 1947, she continued her education at Bradshaw Business School. Pauline worked as a secretary at Fort Devens, and for the Internal Revenue Service in Andover, retiring after 32 years of service.
Pauline was a member of the Red Hat Society and she enjoyed day trips with the Lowell Senior Center. Pauline was an avid reader.
She is survived by her three children, Gail Demas of Springfield, MA, Glenn McGowan of Lowell, and Paula McGowan of Lowell; two grandchildren, Dr. Shannon Demas and her husband, Rimal Patel of Andover, and Matthew Demas of Beverly, MA; and two great grandchildren Alex and Maya Patel. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, the late Gerald T. Carrigg, Anna (Carrigg) Morrison, Joseph Carrigg and John Carrigg.
Her funeral will take place privately, burial in Saint Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
