Kathleen A. (Quill) Gwiazda

LOWELL      Kathleen (Quill) Gwiazda, 72, of Lowell, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Lowell General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.   She was the beloved wife of David Gwiazda, with whom she shared Fifty Six years of marriage last July.

   A daughter of the late John J. Quill and the late Isabel M. (Anderson) Quill, she was born July 4, 1949, in Lawrence and was raised and educated in Lowell, attending Immaculate Conception Grammar School and Keith Hall. She made her longtime home in the Belvidere Section of the City and was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church.  For over twenty five years, she worked as a teacher’s aide at Building Blocks Preschool in Tewksbury.

   Kathleen loved spending time with family, especially with her children and grand children, and she treasured the over 40 years she spent vacationing at Salisbury Beach. In addition, she liked trips to Foxwoods, and especially enjoyed trips to Disney World. She was an avid fan of all the New England sports team, and would never miss one of her grandchildren’s games or events. Her favorite past time was playing, or rather winning games of Forty-Five’s with her family.

   In addition to her loving husband, David, she is survived by her children, Lisa Gwiazda and her husband, Matthew C. Donahue, of Vermont, David Gwiazda and his wife, Alice, of Florida, Jeff Gwiazda and his wife, Shalia, of Andover, and Katelyn Blake and her husband, Timothy, of West Yarmouth; her grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Matthew J. Donahue, Gregory Donahue, Andrew  Donahue and Peter Donahue, Grace Gwiazda and Ben Gwiazda, Jackson Blake, Charlie Blake, and Max Blake; her sisters, Barbara Burgett and her husband, Wayne of Hudson, NH, and Linda Deignan and her husband, William, of Malden; as well as several nieces and nephews.

   She was also a sister of the late John Quill, Jr., the late Noreen Kasilowski, and the late Robert D. Quill, and was also the step grandmother of the late Justin Seamans, and sister in law of the late Joanne Guimond.

   In accordance with the City of Lowell mandate, masks are required.   You are invited to Her Calling Hours 4 until 6 p.m. on Friday.  On Saturday, Her Funeral will begin at 9 a.m. at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, 978-452-6361. Her Funeral Mass will be offered at Immaculate Conception Church, 144 East Merrimack Street, Lowell at 10 a.m.  Burial in St. Mary Cemetery.  Memorials in Her name to Lowell General Hospital, Cancer Center, 295 Varnum Ave, Lowell MA 01854 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
