Evelyn G. Cronin, of Sun City Center, Florida, transitioned from this life on February 2, 2022 due to complications from a debilitating stroke she suffered December 5, 2021.

Evelyn was born in North Adams, MA, June 6, 1934 and lived in Williamstown, MA with her parents Howard and Mildred Garrigus and her sister Doris during her formative years before the family relocated to Cheshire, CT. She graduated from New England Teacher’s College in 1956 with a Bachelor’s degree in early education. She was married to Herbert Clark and they lived in Chelmsford, MA where they were raising their three daughters until they separated in 1970. Evelyn married the late Arthur Roy in 1975 and created a blended family of ten. She was married to Arthur until his death in 1999. In 2003 Evelyn married the late John (Joe) Cronin (2016) and moved to Brockton, MA to live out the remainder of his life together in his bungalow home on Bower Avenue. In January 2021 Evelyn purchased her home in Sun City Center, FL after spending winters there for many years. She began her new life as a full-time resident of Florida in September 2021 and was enjoying her time there immensely.

Evelyn’s early career included teaching Kindergarten until her first child was born. She eventually rejoined the workforce after being a home maker for many years. She worked as a licensed real estate broker, an administrative assistant to an architect, and an office manager for a lawyer for many years until her retirement when she relocated to New Hampshire with Arthur. They enjoyed hiking, snow shoeing, skiing, boating and camping. They also loved to travel and would go on long road trips throughout the United States and Canada as well as international excursions. During her later years in Brockton she was a member of The Brockton Garden Club (Emeritus) and enjoyed outings with friends through The Brockton Counsel on Aging where they would visit museums and other places of interest, attend concerts and take trips to the Cape Cod Canal for picnics. Evelyn loved being with friends and family, dancing, bird watching or just sitting and admiring nature outside of her homes.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Edward Roy (1998), her husband, Arthur Roy (1999), her daughter, Sandra Clark (2012), her husband Joe Cronin (2016), and her sister Doris Garrigus (2017).

She is survived by her children: Catherine Lake (James), of Sun City Center, FL, David Roy (Cheryl Armstrong) of North Chelmsford, MA, Karen King (Scott) of Chelmsford, MA, Sharyn Clark Castagno (Stephen), of Pound Ridge, NY, John Roy of Winthrop, MA and Christopher Roy (Ginamarie), of Beverly, MA. Her grandchidlren: Michael Breen McKay, Raymond Smith, Jeannette (Wiley) Detwiler (Mark), Chris Roy (Sarah), Brian Petrie (Krishana), Ben Roy, Mike Roy, Scott Petrie, Shannon Petrie, Luca Castagno, John Petrie and Nicholas Roy. Her great grandchildren: Odin Smith and Jack Detwiler. Her brother, Thomas (Bert) Langlais, sister in law Rose Beaudry (Pete) and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends, as well as countless others who lovingly referred to her as “Mom”.

On Monday, February 7, 2022 all are welcome to attend her visitation from 9-11 at the Mahoney Funeral Home, 187 Nesmith Street, Lowell, MA 01852. Her funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Lowell Cemetery Chapel, 77 Knapp Ave, Lowell.     We came to know & love Evvie in SCC since 2018. She was a delightful ” go getter” & friend. She WILL be missed!!
