Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Eleanor M. Mello

Eleanor M. Mello
November 20, 1944 – May 22, 2023

Eleanor Mello, 78, of Lowell, Massachusetts passed away Monday, May 22, 2023. She was born on November 20,1944 in Lowell, Massachusetts, daughter of Joseph and Margaret Mello. She was a longtime resident of Lowell, Massachusetts.

Eleanor worked for many years as a Federal employee of Hanscom Air Force Base in Lexington, Massachusetts where most of her years there were spent in the Personnel Department. She was a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Church and Holy Family Parish – St. Marie’s in Lowell.

She is survived by her brother- in- law George Kalich of Indiana, nieces and nephews, George Kalich Jr. of Indiana, Ben Kalich of Indiana, Joseph Mello, III of Pepperell, MA, Margaret Mello of Lowell, MA, Kathy Caruso of Hoschton, GA, James Mello of Lowell, MA, Mary Johnson of Newmarket, NH, and Angela Mello of Clermont, FL; 13 grand nieces and nephews, and 24 great grand nieces and nephews with one more on the way.

Eleanor enjoyed sewing, (especially quilts for members of the family and various charities), flower gardening, cooking (especially Portuguese specialty foods like kale soup and baked haddock), baking for holidays and special occasions, reading, and most of all spending as much time as she could at her beach cottage. Eleanor was known to all of us for her quirky expressions like “your serious!”, and “I’m just going by my co-worker…” and when something or someone annoyed her she would say “that jars my preserves!”, and so many more.

She was an active participant in her family members lives. She never missed a family event, whether it was a birthday, first communion, graduation, wedding, or newborn baby, we could always rely on Eleanor to attend and celebrate everyone’s achievements. Eleanor got great joy from being with her grand and great grand nieces and nephews. She played a huge part in all of our lives. Her presence at future family events will be sorely missed by her family members and friends.

A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
