Barbara B. Allen, 91, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away peacefully, Friday, June 6, 2025, at Belvidere Health Care Center.
A daughter of the late Russell O. Allen and the late Catherine S. (Pyrcz) Allen, she was born May 18, 1934, in Lowell, and was raised and educated in Lowell, attending Immaculate Conception Grammar School and graduating from the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro, Class of 1951. She then received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Lowell State Teachers College in 1960 and attained her Master’s Degree in Education from Northeastern University in 1968.
Barbara loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas, Foxwoods, and Cape Cod. In 1964 she toured Europe for twelve weeks. She also enjoyed playing cards and going out to dinner. She was also a huge Celtics fan and was a season ticket holder for over thirty years.
Always family oriented, she always put her family first, never missing a family gathering. Barbara will be remembered for her kindness, and outgoing and caring spirit throughout her lifetime. Barbara, her sisters, mother, and father loved to sing and there were always songs being sung in the house and at family get-togethers.
Barbara spent her entire career as a teacher, teaching third grade at the Daniel P. Hurld Elementary School in Woburn, retiring from the City of Woburn School System after thirty-five years. After retirement, she continued to give of her time to help whenever the school needed her.
Her survivors include her sister, Joan A. Allen of Tewksbury; her several nieces and nephews, Thomas M. Mawn III, Russell A. Mawn, Catherine A. Webb, Mary Elizabeth Mawn-Ferullo, Martha J. Robillard, J. Lawrence Mawn, Nancy M. Claycomb, and David A. Murray; and her many grand nieces and grand nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy M. Mawn and Catherine Murray, and her niece, Roberta McCormick and her nephew, Phillip Murray.

You are invited to her visitation from 8 until 9 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, Lowell 978-452-6361. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 144 East Merrimack Street, Lowell. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
