Arthur Bernard ‘Sonny’ Brown

LOWELL Arthur Bernard Brown, Commander, United States Navy (Retired), 88, a resident of Lowell, Mass his entire life, died on April 2, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Nora (Sullivan) Brown for over 66 years. He was the son of Arthur J. and Margaret M. (Reid) Brown of Lowell and was born on September 4, 1934. He was a Communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. Arthur was a graduate of Keith Academy in Lowell and Northeastern University in Boston.

Arthur served as a Special Agent for the Internal Revenue Service for 26 years followed by continued service as an Investigator for the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office for 7 years. He had over 30 years of active and reserve duty in the Army, Air Force Reserve and Navy Reserve.

He had an interest in reading action novels and especially loved sports, having played college football for Northeastern and for decades coached Minor League Baseball and Football for his children. His biggest passion was saved for Pat, and they centered their lives around enjoying their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Jennifer King and her husband Steven King of Tyngsboro, MA; and four sons, Michael Brown, Rear Admiral, USN (Retired) and his wife Therese, of Seabrook, NH; Kevin Brown and his wife Kim, of Pepperell, MA; Richard Brown, Vice Admiral, USN (Retired) and his wife Erin, of Jacksonville, FL; and Stephen Brown and his husband David DuCharme, of Manchester, NH; 7 granddaughters, 5 grandsons and 6 great grandchildren.

You are invited to His Calling Hours 9 until 11 a.m. on Wednesday Morning at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, 978-452-6361. His Funeral Mass will be offered at IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 144 East Merrimack Street, Lowell at 12 Noon. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.
