LOWELL Albertina (Silva) Silveira, 94, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022 peacefully at her home in Lowell with her family by her side. She was the widow of the late Manuel V. Silveira who passed away in 1992.
Mrs. Silveira was born on October 31, 1927 in São Jorge, Azores, Portugal where she was raised and educated. She came to the United States in 1967, originally settling in California and then in Lowell, where she has lived since the 1970s.
She held various jobs throughout her lifetime including positions at textile factories, fish factories and as a housekeeper. Family, though, was her world. Her daughter and grandchildren meant everything to her.
She is survived by her daughter, Maria Catalão of Lowell and her grandchildren, Michelle Catalão of Los Angeles, California and Valentim Picanço of Little Rock, Arkansas. She also had two nephews and a niece. Albertina was predeceased by her brother, the late João Americo Silva, who recently passed away in December.
