Helene I. DeCourcey

Helene I. (Morency)(Moriarty) DeCourcey, 96, of Lowell, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Prescott House of North Andover. She was the widow of the late Robert Moriarty who passed away in 1982, and the widow of the late Francis DeCourcey who died in 2017.

A daughter of the late Arsene and the late Lucia (Dube) Morency, she was born September 25, 1929, in Methuen and was raised and educated in that area graduating from Searle High School in Methuen.

Helene dedicated over twenty five years of her life to the Lowell School system beginning her career at the Edith Nourse Rogers School and later in an administrative capacity in the Superintedant’s office.

She cherished her time spent vacationing at the beach with family over the years, and enjoyed embarking on cross country road trips, and especially enjoyed memorable trips to Montreal and Quebec. In addition, she took great joy in attending community events and sharing in family gatherings throughout the years. In her later years she found particular happiness in gardening, reading, cooking, and sewing & knitting.

Her survivors include her children, Mary Ellen McCarthy and her husband, Donald, of Wells, Maine, Maureen Murphy and her husband, Robert Jr., of Tyngsboro, and her son, Joseph Moriarty and his wife, Samantha, of Salem, NH; her grandchildren, Meghan McCarthy of Wells, Maine, Robert Murphy III of Tyngsboro, Ashley Moriarty and Paige Moriarty both of Salem, NH; her siblings, Gloria St. Jean and her husband, Hector ‘Nick’ St. Jean and Richard Morency and his wife, Jacqueline Morency; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

She was the grandmother of the late Kathleen M. McCarthy and sister of the late Leo Morency, Jeanette Garon, Lucille Marston, Estelle Taylor, Paul Morency, Roger Morency, Yvonne Desruisseaux, Marcelle Taylor, and Lorette Richards.

On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, you are invited to her visitation from 11 a.m. until 12 Noon at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, Lowell, 978-452-6361. Her Funeral Service will be held at 12 Noon followed by procession to St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
