Joan A. Linnehan

Joan Anna Linnehan, 89, a lifelong resident of Lowell, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late John E. Linnehan.

Born in Lowell on July 4, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Joseph S. Rogers and Isabella Anna French Rogers. She was also the sister of the late Patricia Rogers of Merrimack, NH, and is survived by her brother, Joseph Rogers, and his wife, Karen Rogers of Tewksbury.

Joan graduated from St. Patrick’s High School and Lowell Commercial College and devoted her life to her home and family. She started her long career as a bookkeeper at the Hood Milk Company, Educator Biscuit Company, Sweaters & Letters, Highland Paper, and Highland Towel. She was known for her steady presence, sharp Irish wit and humor, and the deep affection she held for family and friends. She was a loyal Red Sox fan and an avid reader and walker who remained physically active well into her 80’s.

She is survived by five children and their spouses: John S. Linnehan and his wife, Anne Marie (Wellsman) Linnehan of Bailey, CO; Michael E. Linnehan and his wife, Diane (Nohelty) Linnehan, of Chelmsford; Patrick J. Linnehan and his wife, Sharon (DiTomaso) Linnehan, of Tewksbury; MaryJo Keefe and her husband, John F. Keefe, of Lowell; and Erin McCann and her husband, Michael McCann, of York, ME.

She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren: Kathleen Linnehan Aspden and her husband, Nicholas, of Colorado; John J. Linnehan and his wife, Miranda, of Colorado; Patrick G. Linnehan and his wife, Kendall, of Colorado; Courtney Elizabeth Linnehan of Chelmsford; Matthew Linnehan and his wife, Kaitlyn, of Boston; Andrew Linnehan and his wife, Jessica, of Lowell; Kayla (Linnehan) Querci and her husband, Nicholas, of Tewksbury; Joshua Linnehan of Tewksbury; Bridget (Keefe) David and her husband, Robert, of Lowell; Elizabeth Keefe; Abigail Keefe; John Keefe; Ian McCann of Charlotte, N.Carolina; Jack McCann of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Colin McCann of York, ME, she is also survived by several brothers in law and sisters in law within the Linnehan family.

She is additionally survived by seven great-grandchildren: Ryan, Daniel, Natalie, Finnegan, Rose, Enzo, Sophie, and an expected baby boy, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joan will be remembered fondly for her deep devotion to her family and the friendships she nurtured throughout her long life.

Funeral arrangements by the McDonough Family at the Mahoney Funeral Home. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026 at the Immaculate Conception Church,144 East Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., the Funeral Mass will be offered at the conclusion of the calling hours at 12 p.m. with a procession to follow for burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury.
