LOWELL Angela M. Shaw, 89 of Lowell, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at her home in Belvidere. She was the widow of the late Arthur B. Shaw who passed away in 1994 after 43 years of marriage.
Angela was born in Manhattan, NY on January 26, 1930 and was a daughter of the late Aurelio Marchena and the late Janet (Morgan) Marchena. She was raised in Harlem, NY, where she attended the area schools until moving to North Carolina as a teenager, where she attended high school. She later graduated from Howard University as a Theatre Major and was a member of the AKA Sorority.
Angela was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church on Pacific Street in Brooklyn, NY for many years. She was a very fashionable lady, and enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle, as well as traveling the world.
She was employed as a Housing Manager for the New York City Housing Department for over 25 years before her retirement.
Angela is survived by her two children, Angela Shaw and her husband, Georges DeCock of Toulouse, France, and Erik B. Shaw and his partner, Cassandra Rampaul of Lowell, MA; her grandchildren, Karel DeCock and his spouse, Naambo Shivute, Garrett DeCock and his spouse, Michelle O’Keeffe, and Jasmine DeCock Whyte and her husband, Warren Whyte; and her great grandchildren, Esaiah DeCock, and Dominic DeCock. She is also survived by her brother in law, Robert Shaw and his wife, Barbara; and many cousins and extended family in New York, North Carolina, and Aruba.
She was predeceased by her daughter in law, the late Sherri Sanders; and her cousin, the late Charles Ray Morgan.
